Blaine High School
Blaine High School
Jason Paske, Blaine High School (BHS) interim principal, introduced art teacher Pam Undis, who introduced
award winning students Esther Stoy, Mikayla Foss and Katie Langley. Stoy, a sophomore, won first place in a
congressional art exhibition along with two first place and a third place ribbon at the Minnesota State Fair. Langlee, a junior, won a second place Minnesota State Fair award in drawing as did classmate Mikayla Foss.
BHS seniors Connor Schmidt and Catherine Lewis were recognized for their status as a semi-finalist in the highly
competitive National Merit Scholarship competition, along with Emma Butzer, who was named a commended
student in the competition.
Kris Feine, middle school German teacher, introduced a cohort of students from Germany and their Anoka-Hennepin host students who are involved with a culture and education exchange.
Andover High School
Becky Brodeur, Andover High School (AndHS) principal, introduced seniors Benjamin Johnson and Alysse Defoe,
who were named commended scholars in the National Merit Scholarship program.
Tara Koschak, AndHS counselor, introduced students who were selected to leadership positions in the American
Legion’s Boys State and Girls State leadership programs. Senior Vincent Clark was named senator and senior
Gabi Bittner was named Lieutenant Governor for Girls State.
A total of 67 AndHS students were awarded as AP scholars in relation to their performance on college-level Advanced Placement (AP) coursework. Students recognized as AP Scholars, earning a score of 3 or more on three
AP tests are: Sofia Burckhardt, Payton Clark, Liza Danczyk, Jacob Erickson, Ian Gardner, David Hall, Braden
Kult, Porter Larkin, Garrett Leverentz, Sydney Plohasz, Garrett Prentis, Nathan Rasmussen, Parker Salmi, Erica
Thelen, Vincent Clark and Francesca Zenti.
Nine students completed four or more exams with an average score of 3.25 and were named AP Scholars with
Honors: Madylin Banken, Raegen Crawford, Jolene Daringer, Alysse DeFoe, Michael Hall, Blake Mattson, Thomas Okeefe, Jacob Sorenson and Steven Winship. Four AndHS students were recognized for earning AP Scholar
with Distinction honors, earning an average score of 3.5 on all exams and a score of 3 or more on five exams:
William Claire, Alexander Gutenberg, Benjamin Johnson and Ryan Sims. In total, 371 AndHS students took AP
exams last year with 63.9 percent earning a score of 3 or more.
Aisha Sow and Kina Msuya were recognized for their leadership in the “Be Wise Water Campaign “ which led to
a first place finish in the Wyland Foundation National Mayors Water Challenge.
