Advancing Health Equity in Rural
Georgia Communities
T
hrough Healthcare Georgia
Foundation’s Two Georgias Initiative ,
the Partnership for Southern Equity
(PSE) is leading a multi-year effort to
help rural residents in 11 grantee
communities across the state envision the
changes in healthcare they want to see in their
communities.
As
a
Community Health Improvement Plan to
improve access to quality healthcare,
conversations about how to advance health
equity for all in these rural Georgia
communities are changing. Over the past year
and half, residents are beginning to see
divisions disappear, trust increase, and new
relationships form.

After leading health equity conversations last
year in all 11 Georgia communities, PSE will
coordinate two regional workshops and
develop distance learning opportunities in
2019 to support coalition members’ continued
learning around health equity and other
issues of specific concern.
PSE will also add two Community
Ambassadors to their Two Georgias team this
year to work closely with the Initiative’s local
Project Managers in southern and northern
Georgia counties to provide support for
community engagement and help identify
strategies that enable residents to participate
fully in shared decision-making.
Every voice, every story,
every community, has
value when we work
together to advance
health equity.

“We understand that creating lasting change to
the prevailing systems of disparity and
marginalization will not occur through brief,
single-issue transactional advocacy, but by deep,
intentional and long-term engagement with
communities,” said Arlene Parker Goldson, Just
Health Manager, with the Partnership for
Southern Equity (PSE).
