SHOWCASE 1. Parallel Polarisation This image allows us to look at discolouration and the microvascular structures in the skin. What we can see in this image taken 4 months apart is pigmentation has improved leading to more even complexion. 1. 2. 2. Parallel Polarisation Parallel polarisation mode reveals texture; the fine surface and pore structure in detail. Images taken 4 months apart. There is an improvement in texture. When the skin undergoes cosmetic treatments like abrasive skin care, facials, peels, the skin becomes compromised, leading to a barrier disorderd skin, contributing to inflammation. As you can see this shows as tired, dull, rough bumpy skin. The clinical treatments have boosted the home care that supports and normalises the skin barrier. Results are clearer complexion, even skin texture and softening of the fine lines. 3. Crossed Polarisation We have seen the improvements in detail in the skin texture (above). This image is cross polarisation and focusses on the vascularity of the cheeks we see here (left) The vascular system has improved. Barrier, colour, more even distribution melanin resulting in clear complexion. There are some profound broken capillaries under the eye, that have softened and improved. The micro capillaries have diminished. The results are in… What a simple skin care regime can achieve It’s been 12 months since I was introduced to Karen Black’s new Observ Skin Analysis Machine, at which point I embarked on a skin revitalising journey. At the time I was a self-confessed novice when it came to my skin care. I had good intensions to use the right products in the right way but my hectic lifestyle meant that was low on the priority list, and noticeably over the years, this has taken it’s toll on my skin. The youthful, subtle skin I once had now has evidence of what raising children, work, the sun and stress can do to our outer layer. Karen’s innovative machine was able to show exactly how much my skin had been effected on a deeper level. In my previous article in the Dec17 edition, I talked about the redness and pigmentation in my skin, clogged pores and dry skin. The images that were taken were able to tell Karen what was causing the skin variations and give her the knowledge of how we could improve these area’s. Twelve months on, I was back behind the lens to look at what improvements my skin had made with the treatment plans Karen had put in place. I was excited to see that lines around my eyes and on my forehead had been reduced. Also, the texture of my skin had softened for a better complexion. It’s important to bear in mind that I had gone from literally no skin care regime to suddenly needing to be vigilant with my skin care. As most of those who live busy lives can relate, this is no easy feat and I must admit I did fall off the beauty regime wagon a few times. With the guilt of letting the health of my skin down, I never left it too long without getting back into routine to ensure that I was doing all I could to help rejuvenate my skin. The proof is in the results. I am so thrilled with the changes and improvements my skin has made with very little effort. I haven't used any invasive techniques, just the skin identical products that are customised to my skin and LED light treatments in the last 3 months which had a massive impact on the health of my skin. There are many other treatments that I can make the most of, but Karen and I wanted to show how making small changes in your beauty practices and keeping to a conservative budget, can make a huge difference to the appearance of your skin and it’s health. I absolulty loved the Dermavidual products that Karen introduced me to over the last 12 months which included Dermaviduals DMS cleansing milk, treatment gels. face masks and base creams. I always feel well hydrated and cleansed. With the bespoke serums created to suit my skins needs, I felt like I was making a conscious difference to my skin. Karen has many successful results with her clients from basic skin care to addressing advanced skin conditions. With a number of skin care options, it is well worth consulting with Karen to see what treatments could help rejuvenate and replenish your skins health. 3. 4. • SKINCARE • MAKEUP • BEAUTY SPECIALIST • Skin analysis | Corrective skin care and makeup | Sugaring hair removal | Oncology esthetics 5. Having an advanced skin analysis is getting to know your skin, inside and out. We get accurate information of what is going on, what happened, how skin conditions happened etc. It’s only then that we can make up a skin treatment plan and set realistic goals. Wether it is skin correction, age management, maintaining healthy skin...it needs to be addressed topically and internally. Have regular follow ups and treatments so we can monitor and tweak if needed. Getting your skin analysis and skin treatment plan goes often with a recommendation to naturopath. At Skin Perfection we work together with Abi Walker to ensure we are covering all the basis when it comes to improving the health of your skin. Abi Walker; 4. Woods BHSC Naturopathy, PGDIP Dietetics, BSC Human Nutrition. This image is taken under the woods light. It lights up the active sebaceous glands. The quantity, quality, and distribution of the oil. Having worked very closely alongside some of Melbourne's best Integrative GP’s and Naturopaths, Abi’s main areas of expertise are in skin conditions (dermatitis, acne, rosacea, pigmentation and eczema), gut healing and microbiome recovery (IBS - bloating, constipation and diarrhoea, IBD and SIBO), and womens health (period problems, PCOS, Endometriosis and menopausal symptoms). The intensity and depth of inflammatory activity around the sebaceous glands is revealed. We can see that the sebaceous glands light up orange around the mandible and mouth area. This shows that the quality of the lipids is sluggish and congested, Leading to rough and bumpy skin texture (seen in previous image). The left image, has less to almost non reflective lights. Topically the skin isn’t using anymore comedogenic cremes but the omegas weren’t continued so the skin depleted in essential fatty acids. This means that an increase in fatty acids is required for the benefit of the skin. 5. You can see the results for yourself.. A word from Karen: Example of what an analysis the treatment plan can achieve in extreme cases. The client required skin adjusting from long term topical steroid. Image taken under 4 weeks apart over high summer with just two home care products (cleansing milk and treatment gel). Sebum quality is affected not only by what we put on our skin but by what we put inside our bodies. Fats in the diet are crucial for healthy skin and the types and quality of dietary fat is one area I am highly passionate about. Our skin is the last place to receive the nutrients we put in so we need to ensure we are having an abundance of quality fats. Typically our diets are very high in omega 6 fats (found in vegetable, sunflower, corn, sesame, peanut, soy and canola oils) and very low in omega 3 (found in fatty fish such as mackerel, sardines and salmon). Diets lacking in omega 3 lead to thick, gluggy sebum which clogs our pores and causes skin conditions such as acne. The high ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fats is also very pro-inflammatory and inflammation is a contributing factor in many skin conditions including eczema, dermatitis, acne and rosacea. Even just redness and pigmentation is a sign of inflammation. Therefore altering our diets to favour a higher ratio of omega 3 fats is really important.
