EFSC Foundation Newsletter April 2019

Volume 4 April 2019 3rd Annual Backyard BBQ I t was a beautiful Saturday for a family-friendly event and some incredible barbeque. Over 2,000 guests came to sample pork barbeque from 25 different vendors. The event, held in conjunction with the Red, White and Wheels Car Show, raised close to $90,000 for student and veteran scholarships. Teams from all over the state competed in three categories for ribs, pork butt and brisket. This year a new category of competition was added, the Corporate Challenge, which had teams competing for the Golden Pig statue and bragging rights. Winners were selected through the People’s Choice voting, which awarded Huff and Puff from Vero Beach as Grand Champion for the backyard competitors and The Viera Company the Corporate Challenge winner. Attendees enjoyed the sounds of the Penny Creek Band as well as the Kids Zone, Tank America and several food trucks and merchandise vendors. The Foundation called on the help of over 50 volunteers and 20 judges, including EFSC College President Dr. Jim Richey and four judges from the Florida BBQ Association. “We are very appreciative of all our volunteers, judges, cook-off teams, sponsors and guests. Your contribution to this event helps make our students’ dreams come true,” said Jennie Kriete, Director of the EFSC Foundation. Please be sure to Save the Date for the 4th Annual BBQ: Saturday, February 22, 2020. Contact the Foundation office at 321-433-7055 if you would like to be involved next year.
