The Drawing Board
Semester 2, 2018
Update
Hello everyone and welcome to the final edition of the Drawing
Board for 2018.
Once again the year seems to have raced by and I can’t believe how
quickly December has come around. I think most folk would agree
that 2018 has been a year of change at USQ; changes of personnel,
changes in business practices, changes in focus and priorities. The
organisation has been given a significant refurbishment (to use
Campus Services speak).
For the Campus Services team, we have been touched by much
of the activity. On the personnel front we started a number of
apprentices this year and continued with our school trainee
program, but on a sadder note we also said goodbye to two of the
management team members (Renee and Darren).
Planning around the physical Estate has really kicked up a gear with the Master Planning Project
now under way and you will see opportunities to contribute to that project over the coming weeks.
Ellipsis has also finished the year on a high note with confirmation of the Ellipsis model
continuing into the future, investment in new assets, and various awards and recognition
through the year including a Gold Medal at the National Print Awards Australia for 3D Print.
The Planning, Projects and Space team has also been busy with completion of Mount Kent, the
ASE Precinct, Springfield Library and a host of other projects across the campuses.
Omnia had some significant high points as well, with the award of a 5 Star food safety rating
from Ipswich City Council (1 of only 12 awarded). Well done Kelly and the team! The bookshop
and café at Ipswich were integrated and a much nicer space created as a result.
The Environmental team has been busy lowering our carbon footprint and brightening our
lives with a host of new LED lights being installed, plus we have achieved more than our target
power generation from the solar arrays.
Our Security and Emergency team have also been very busy with a host of new infrastructure
being installed and the imminent roll out of the new SafeZone smart phone App. Of course,
the highlight of the year was the joint (with Queensland Police Service) armed offender exercise
that took place at Toowoomba in September, and thanks to all the staff and students that took
part as actors in that event. It was really well done, generating a lot of learning and very much
appreciated by all concerned.
The Campus Services team also held a workshop in October that focused on team values and
culminated in a refresh of our 2010 Team Charter.
Please enjoy this edition of the Drawing Board and your feedback as always is most welcome.
