AHEF 2018-19 report and update
Julie Klund-Shubert, board chairperson, and Tess DeGeest, executive director, presented an annual update for the Anoka-
Hennepin Educational Foundation. Impact of foundation programs include grant funding to support classroom innovation,
support of the district STEM fair for 2,000 plus students, support for facility innovation with makerspace areas in schools,
middle school activities support and more.
Trade study on stadium surfaces
Greg Cole, chief operations officer, led a presentation regarding the deployment of synthetic turf for district students
and programs in response to a School Board strategic priority. Steve Anderson, director of buildings and grounds, Tiffany
Audette, purchasing manager, and Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, supported the presentation. The overview
included a review of current conditions, an updated financial analysis, facility use goals, logistics and timelines along with
a timeline for 2021 and 2022 construction. The concept plan would add synthetic turf at all district stadiums and one
additional turf practice field at each high school. Audette explained that because over 60 other similar projects have been
pursued in the metro area the pricing presented to the board can be considered a viable estimate. The financing plan
would either utilize lease levy or a one-time strategic investment from assigned fund balance to minimize tax impact. The
board will consider approval of the concept plan at an upcoming meeting.
