Cottonwood Connections January 2024

January 2024

District Director Notes - Jay Harris

I hope everyone was able to find some opportunities to spend time with their family and friends during the holidays and that you were able to unwind a little as well. The new year will bring a wide range of different programs being held by the agents in the Cottonwood District and surrounding counties.

Our 4-H Youth Development agents will be involved with 4-H Program Youth Rally, 4H2O Ambassador training, fair judges training and record book judging (all agents will be assisting with the judging). Our Ag. and Natural Resources agents will be helping neighboring counties with Calving School, Cover Your Acres and Agricultural Producers Meeting. They will be hosting a Cow-Calf Clinic in Hays and an alfalfa and forage meeting in Great Bend. Our Family and Consumer Wellness agents will be involved with Glo Germ Handwashing, Dining With Diabetes, Stay Strong Stay Healthy, Living Well Wednesday, Walk With Ease, ServSafe and Mental Health First Aid. Our Horticulture agent will be involved with a Local Food Producers Workshop that will be held in Hays and raised garden bed programs.

K-State Research and Extension and the Cottonwood District is committed to expanding human capacity through educational programs and technical information that result in improved leadership skills in the areas of communication, group dynamics, conflict resolution, issue analysis, and strategic planning that can enhance the economic viability and quality of life in communities. “We are dedicated to a safe, sustainable, competitive food and fiber system and to strong, healthy communities, families and youth through integrated research, analysis and education.”

Contact one of our district offices if you are interested in receiving more information on any of the programs or workshops listed above.
