BROTHER RICE V O L U M E 5 7, I S S U E 1 Chieftain S EPTEMBER 2017 Let’s Get To Know New Faculty First-year teachers Play ‘2 Truths & a Lie’ Welcome Letter An introduction to the 2017-18 school year By Colin Watts Chieftain Staff A lot can happen in a year and, here at Brother Rice, a lot has happened. As we embark on the 2017-18 school year, we at the Chieftain want to welcome all faculty, staff, and students in the only way we know how: a letter. Here at the Chieftain, we’ve changed. We’ve added 13 new members to go with our returning four staffers. As you may know, we added a broadcast element to the Chieftain last year, “Chieftain Live.” After much positive feedback, “Chieftain Live” is back, better than ever, and ready to deliver informative and fun content to you, the Brother Rice Students. Just like last year, the Chieftain will be distributed to you on your iPad via the Chieftain app. And make sure to follow us on Twitter @BRChieftain. We’ll be there often to conduct polls and share B R OTHE R R IC E H IG H S C H O O L C H I E F TA I N news throughout the course of the school year. On behalf of the Chieftain staff, I want to welcome to Brother Rice the Class of 2021 (some of you are pictured above), to whom this fi rst issue is dedicated. We hope you have enjoyed your fi rst month of school, and we only hope it keeps get- ting better. To the Sophomores, we hope that you continue what you started last year and use what you learned in the best way possible. To my fellow Juniors, let us work harder than ever to achieve our goals in our most important academic year. Finally, to the Seniors, it is time to enjoy your last year at Rice. Have fun but also do all you can do to leave a positive im- pact on the school. Good luck to all and, as always, Live Jesus in our hearts, forever. P AGE 1 Editor’s note: As has become our tradi- tion, different members of the Chieftain staff sat down with our new faculty (and two new counselors) for a little game of “2 Truths and a Lie.” See if you can guess which statement about each is not true.
