With almost 4,000 people attending last year’s event, huge crowds are expected this year as local businesses within the community provide their expertise and showcase their products and services. For the second year in a row, Georgia Gardener Walter Reeves will present at the expo. As the star of WSB’s Lawn and Garden Show, which is Atlanta’s best source of weekly gardening information, Walter Reeves is the morning’s main attraction. Winners announced on eMetroTimes.com/photocontest H ands Across Rockdale is seeking applicants and volunteers during its 6th annual day of community-wide service event on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The goal is to promote volunteerism while helping those in need within Rockdale County. There is so much need that everyone can help no matter what age or skill level. In 2016, almost 300 volunteers were placed at 15 different project sites throughout Rockdale. Organizations that benefited from the community- wide service event last year included Conyers Middle School, Haven House, Mercy Heart Clinic, Phoenix Pass, Refuge Pregnancy Center, Rockdale Cares, Salem High School, Walk of Heroes, and many Continued on page 10... expires 4/15/2017 expires 4/15/2017 T he 9th Annual K-9 Memorial Event was held on March 4, 2017 and was the largest event in the world to honor K-9’s who have served and protected us. It was also our country’s only annual K-9 event for fallen police dogs. Holly Cripps and her husband, Police Chief Jason Cripps of the Porterdale Police Department, began We Ride to Provide, which holds the event, as a bike ride honoring fallen K9’s. Over the years, the event has grown to include law enforcement K-9’s from across the country who have died in the line of duty or who passed in retirement. The memorial event on March 4, 2017, was held in the Porterdale Gym. The event began with a pre-ceremony meeting for handlers that lost their K-9 partners in 2016 and was followed by the ceremony. This year many dogs passed.
