District Director Notes - Jay Harris
By now most of you have received a “Save the Date” email from Kansas State University that gives some details about the regional community visit. This visit will be happening in the Cottonwood District November 7-8. K-State's regional community visits foster relationships and connections across the state, allowing yet another venue for K-State to carry out its land-grant mission for the state of Kansas. K-State is living its land-grant mission, engaging with Kansans through intentional visits across the state. The Kansas State Fair will take place in Hutchinson, September 8-17. We are excited for the 57 4-Hers from the Cottonwood District (32 from Ellis county and 25 from Barton County) that will be taking exhibits to this year’s state fair. The 57 kids will be taking 125 different projects to the fair. For a 4-H member to qualify for the state fair they have to receive a blue ribbon or better for small animals (rabbits, chickens, etc.) and a purple ribbon or better for a static entry (photography, arts and crafts, horticulture, etc.). If you attend the Kansas State Fair, please look for the exhibits from the Cottonwood District 4-H members. We will also have 4-H members showing in various livestock shows during the fair as well. Be watching for these kids from the Cottonwood District.
We will also have some of our agents working at the K-State Research and Extension booth located in the Pride of Kansas building. Please stop by the booth and say hi to any of the Cottonwood District agents or other K-State employees that are there.
