Kiawah was spared storm surge and flood damage, but the large amount of debris cleanup took over a month to fully clear and remove. More recently trees have been replaced along the Kiawah Island Parkway and Governors Drive to restore the landscape. This cleanup and restoration effort in total cost the association $700,000. Insurance reimbursed $89,000, resulting in $609,000 of associated costs. KICA’s property and casualty policy includes a small amount of debris removal coverage, but not enough to cover a storm of this size. On Monday, Nov. 4, the KICA board approved a supplemental assessment for Hurricane Dorian of $130 per improved property and $65 per unimproved property. This supplemental assessment will be billed with the 2020 annual assessment at the end of December. ISLAND EMPLOYEES Security Advisor Gets Citizenship in October You may have seen KICA Security community service advisor Sergio Avigliano (center) waving you by at Kiawah’s main gate. On Oct. 29, Sergio officially became a US citizen! Sergio immigrated from Argentina 20+ years ago and he said this was one of the best days of his life. We’re so proud to have Sergio as a member of our team. Many members reached out to offer their congratulations, including Bonnie MacDonald, who said, “I have had the pleasure of speaking with Sergio on many occasions. He is a class act and we are so fortunate to have him.” We couldn’t agree more. Congratulations, Sergio! 6 | KIAWAH ISLAND DIGEST
