City Officials Celebrate Opening of Newport Harbor ’ s Newest and Largest Public Dock

Residential Burglary in Ocean Heights Community : appx . 8:40 p . m . on April 5 . While the victim was away , an unknown suspect accessed the backyard of the property and then climbed up to the second story balcony using the barbeque , wall and some wooden beams . The suspect shattered a window on the balcony to get into the master bedroom . Inside , the suspect went through drawers in the nightstand , dresser and closet . During the course of the burglary , the alarm was activated . The suspect fled the scene before police arrived a few minutes later .
Loss : Wallet ( recovered at the scene ), purse . Suspect Info : None available at this time .

By Christopher Trela | NB Indy Officials from the City of Newport Beach , the County of Orange , the Irvine Company and State Assembly celebrated the grand opening of Newport Harbor ’ s largest public dock on Friday , March 29 .
Following a ceremonial ribbon cutting , the Balboa Marina Public Pier was officially opened for public use . The new pier can accommodate up to 12 small vessels or several larger vessels . It is free for day use by the public for up to three hours .
The dock is located at 151 E . Coast Highway , on the site of the old Reuben E . Lee restaurant / steamship .
The pier greatly expands public access and recreational opportunities in a previously underserved area of the harbor .

The project is a partnership between the City , County and Irvine Company .
“ We are really excited — this has been a long time coming . We know this will not only increase the opportunities people have to access the harbor but also open up a new gateway to our city ,” said Newport Beach Mayor Will O ’ Neill , who arrived at the event via a boat that dropped him off at the new dock . “ We have the largest recreational harbor west of the Mississippi . This new dock will allow more folks to come here , enjoy themselves , and eat and shop local .”
According to information from the City of Newport Beach , the City will own , maintain and operate the pier . The pier is ADA compliant and includes the opportunity to use the “ human lift ” device

Beginning this week , the Newport Beach Police Department will broadcast emergency messages exclusively through our new public notification system , Newport Notified .
If you have not yet signed up for Newport Notified , I encourage you to register today .
As of Friday , April 12 , the Police Department will no longer send messages through Nixle , the previous platform . Current Nixle subscribers will need to subscribe to Newport Notified to already in use at Marina Park .
Part of the dock is located on tidelands property controlled by the County of Orange . The County Board of Supervisors granted the City long-term access in 2022 with a 45-year , no-cost lease .
“ After voting to approve much-needed improvements to the Balboa Marina on County tidelands in 2022 , I am happy to see the vision for the Pier completed ,” said Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley , Fifth District .
The new pier was constructed and financed by the Irvine Company as part of an agreement with the California Coastal Commission that allows for expansion of an adjacent private marina .

The new system will be used to alert subscribers about emergencies and other community safety issues such as traffic and crime advisories . The system allows the Police Department to notify subscribers through their choice of text , email and voicemail .
Newport Notified will be used for emergency notifications related to incidents such as power outages , fires , evacuations , tsunamis and other hazards where public safety is at risk . It will also

Residential Burglary in the 2500 block of First Ave . in the Corna del Mar Village Community : Occurred between approximately 11:45 p . m . on April 4 and 7:15 a . m . on April 5 . While the victims were sleeping , an unknown suspect accessed the side of the house and pried open a window . Inside , the suspect went through a cabinet in the office and then fled the scene through a door .
Loss : U . S . currency . Suspect Info : None available at this time .
Residential Burglary in Pelican Ridge Community at appx . 9:15 a . m . on March 31 in Pelican Ridge Community . While the victim was upstairs , an unknown suspect accessed the backyard of the property from the hillside behind the home . The suspect used a rock to shattered a first floor sliding glass door that led to the kitchen . The victim heard the noise downstairs and yelled ; the suspect fled the scene . The victim exited the house and called police ; no suspect was located in the area when police arrived a few minutes later .
Loss : None . Suspect Info : Male subject wearing a black hoodie over his head , black face covering , black pants , black gloves and black shoes .
Residential Burglary in Crystal Cove Community between appx . 8 a . m . on March 21 , and 12 p . m . on March 26 . While the victims were away , an unknown suspect accessed the backyard of the property and shattered a window to get inside the house . Inside , the suspect rummaged through
