As the pandemic lingers and cyberattacks against govern- ment networks continue un- abated , the U . S . Congress is taking action .

In August 2021 , a Senate Homeland Security and Gov- ernments Affairs Committee report found key federal agen- cies don ’ t meet basic cyberse- curity standards . The average grade for security maturity for these agencies was a “ C ”— a rating that ’ s remained un- changed since 2019 .

The report , titled “ America ’ s Data Still at Risk ,” underscores the potential risk of incomplete security policies and proce- dures adopted at the beginning of the crisis and the “ minimal improvementsents ” made since .
