Respiratory Care Program Acquires New State-of-the-Art Ventilator
GMercyU ’ s Respiratory Program recently purchased a new Servo U ventilator , a model currently used at multiple clinical sites . Respiratory Care juniors and sophomores will use it in a laboratory setting as well as Interprofessional simulations ( IPE ). The ventilator was acquired through support from the endowed fund for the Frances M . Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions .
“ This cutting-edge technology better prepares our students for working in the field ,” said Respiratory Care Professor of Practice and Program Coordinator William ( Randy ) Solly , MS RRT RPFT . “ It bridges the gap between the lab and clinical setting and can provide a seamless transition for our students into the workforce after graduation .”
Manufactured by Getinge , the ventilator has the capability to ventilate neonatal to adult patients . It features graphic feedback for monitoring the patient and various ventilator modes to customize weaning .
GMercyU Announces Diversity , Equity & Inclusion Strategic Plan
In January 2022 , Gwynedd Mercy University announced a campus-wide Diversity , Equity & Inclusion Strategic Plan , created in partnership with GMercyU ’ s Office of Diversity , Equity & Inclusion and a committee of faculty and staff from departments across the University .
The plan serves as GMercyU ’ s three-year roadmap toward creating a more equitable , inclusive campus culture , with four concrete goals and means for holding ourselves accountable to those goals . It touches every area of the University : our curriculum and co-curriculum , student development and leadership , our administrative structures , practices , and decision-making , as well as our admissions , hiring , and promotions practices .
A Reimagined Office for Student Engagement
At the conclusion of the 2020-2021 academic year , the former Office of Student Activities and Leadership Programs rebranded as the Office for Student Engagement .
“ With the quality and quantity of programs we were offering , we wanted a name that better reflected the holistic student experience we ’ ve created ,” said Rouseline Emmanuel-Frenel , Ed . D ., Director for Student Engagement . “ Each of our office ’ s components is deeply dedicated to offering meaningful connections with the campus community , a sense of belonging for all students , and opportunities for students to explore cultures , life experiences , and worldviews different from their own .”
The Office for Student Engagement ’ s programs span New Student Orientation , dozens of clubs and organizations , CORE ( Creating Opportunities for Reflecting on Inclusive Excellence ) Programs , After Dark ( evening and weekend student events ), Griffin Student Leadership Institute , and Money Matters – in addition to a new Mental Wellness & Empowerment Tool Kit that launched this fall to support student wellness , an initiative they began working on even before COVID .
“ There ’ s been a positive shift of energy in the Waldron Center this year ,” said Dr . Emmanuel-Frenel of the return to campus after a year of hybrid learning . “ It ’ s felt more vibrant ; students have been looking for opportunities to connect .”
To make it easier for students to find upcoming events and ways to get involved , the Office for Student Engagement launched an online campus-wide platform , Griffin Engage . You must be logged in to view everything on Griffin Engage , but Class of 2021 grads can still access it – log in if you need a refresher for your resume on your involvement at GMercyU .
The Office for Student Engagement also launched a new Tik Tok account this fall – follow them at @ gmercyustudentengagement !
“ I challenge every member of our community to embrace this critical work by welcoming the opportunity to understand each other more deeply , to more fully live our Mercy mission , and to better serve our students and each other by advancing diversity , equity , and inclusion at Gwynedd Mercy University ,” said President Deanne H . D ’ Emilio , JD .
