Q. The holidays are coming, should I just wait until January to look for a job? I don’t want to start a new job over the holidays.

A. It depends on your goals…especially when you want to start work. A typical job takes about 12-16 weeks to hire and start the onboarding process. So, if you want to start sometime in April or May of 2020… then you should start your job search in January of 2020.

Did you know that you usually have a choice of start dates when you get a new job? And that most companies like to start people in January… because most of the managers are off during the holidays.

It’s easy to slack off or make excuses through the holidays. I understand that the holidays can be stressful and the same for job search, so adding job search to the mix might seem overwhelming. But trust me, it’s easier than waiting until the New Year to start looking with extra pressure.
