MACEWAN UNIVERSITY

CHRISTENSON FAMILY CENTRE FOR SPORT AND WELLNESS

MacEwan University’s fitness centre has kind of an odd shape to it, kind of resembling a zig zag. Aside

from that, this facility offers very nice equipment and the culture here is also very positive with the

student population. It can be quite busy during traditional semester months (September-April) in the afternoons and evenings, but aside from that offers a really great environment to train in. During the summer months, there is barely anyone there, which makes it a great place if you’re worried about equipment availability.

Cost- The drop-in cost is $10, but they offer a wide variety of perks for different age groups or

affiliations. Check out rates here.

Cleanliness- Cleanliness has never been an issue here. All equipment and floors are kept very clean.

Sometimes there is chalk on the platforms, but they are cleaned very often.

Dominant lifting style- There has been a transition to more Olympic and powerlifting at this facility. They added more platforms, bars, and weights in the back, which brought a rise in popularity for these lifting styles. I’d say about 2/3 of people here just go for cardio or a quick bodybuilding style workout.

Personal training- This is available. Check out their website for trainer bios!

WiFi- Available, either through the public stream or your student login.

Parking- There is street parking just north of the facility, and some paid parking at several locations around. If you’re just going for an hour, you could just park on the street, but if it’s during normal school hours, it may be difficult to find a spot. The LRT is about 5 blocks away, either east (MacEwan Station) or south (Corona Station).
