Two BSW hospitals named “ High Performing ” for Maternity Care by U . S . News & World Report

aylor University Medical Center in Dallas and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine have been recognized as “ High Performing ” in
Maternity Care by U . S . News & World Report — the highest rating U . S . News awards for this type of care . The medical centers were the only two hospitals in Dallas-Fort Worth to receive this accolade , placing them in the top 10 % of hospitals nationwide for pregnancy care .
To be recognized among the “ Best Hospitals for Maternity ,” hospitals had to excel on multiple quality metrics that matter to expectant families , including complication rates , C-sections , whether births were scheduled too early in pregnancy , and how successfully each hospital supported breastfeeding .
Baylor University Medical Center was the first hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth designated as a Level IV maternal care center , the highest possible designation by the Texas Department of State Health Services . It was ranked in the top 50 hospitals nationwide for Gynecology on U . S News & World Report ’ s “ Best Hospitals ” list
2021-2022 and voted “ Best Place to Have a Baby 2021 ” by readers of Dallas Child Magazine . Awarded the “ Texas Ten Step Award ” for a mother-friendly environment , the hospital is a member of the Texas Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health Initiative . Baylor University Medical Center also is the first in the world to offer uterus transplant outside of a clinical trial , offering a solution to women with absolute uterine factor infertility .
At BSW – Grapevine , more than 3,000 babies are born each year . The hospital has been awarded the “ Texas Ten Step Award ” for a mother-friendly environment and was designated a Level II maternal care center by the Texas Department of State Health Services . The labor and delivery program includes nationally certified nurses , IBCLCcertified lactation consultants , advanced medical technology and multidisciplinary physicians on the medical staff .
BSW – Grapevine features a 21-bed Level III NICU that combines advanced technology and highly trained healthcare professionals to provide specialized care for the smallest babies .
“ It is our great responsibility to care for mothers and babies , and this recognition is an example of how our multidisciplinary staff continues to work tirelessly for our patients ,” said Steve Newton , president of Baylor University Medical Center .

Letter from the Chair

My family and I always enjoy watching the Olympics , and the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games in February were another example of riveting action . Watching athletes perform at the top of their abilities — after years spent training for this one moment in time — is inspirational . It ’ s not unlike the years our Baylor Scott & White Health caregivers spend training for the moment in time when they can impact a life , a family and a community — and that moment in time happens across our System , day after day . They all deserve
gold medals for their preparation , bravery , stamina and dedication .
Our dedicated clinicians continue to stand out , year after year . Did you know that the only two early-stage FDA-approved immuno-oncology studies this year — among all research conducted worldwide — are being led by physicians at the Charles A . Sammons Cancer Center at Baylor Scott & White ? The trials — one for triple negative breast cancer , led by Joyce O ’ Shaughnessy , MD , and the other for esophageal / gastroesophageal junction cancer , led by Ronan Kelly , MD — were published separately by the New England Journal of Medicine .
When you hear news like this , you understand why people like Jennifer Andreas , whose story we highlight this month , moved her family from New Mexico to North Texas so she could receive care from our renowned transplant team . Innovation , expertise and outcomes supported by an unwavering commitment from our caregivers is part of what makes
Baylor Scott & White a destination for care .
That care is also made possible by excellent leadership . Our System has thrived under Jim Hinton and we thank him for the success he has helped us achieve , and we wish him well in his retirement . We also welcome Pete McCanna to his new role as CEO , where his dedication to a patient-centric culture will continue this impressive legacy .
Our partners in philanthropy also play an important role by supporting the exceptional work that goes on here . It simply can ’ t happen without all of us coming together as one team .
And in my opinion , while there is no gold medal to hand out , our Baylor Scott & White team is delivering world-class results for our patients every day .
