The St Albert Art Gallery: Renovated and Barrier Free!

After being under renovations for over a year, The Art Gallery of St Albert has finally re-opened their doors!

This newly modernized historic building is now fully accessible by everyone. The open concept, features new wheelchair accessibility elevators and an outdoor ramp. They were able to keep the beautiful historic exterior while establishing a contemporary theme inside. It is almost as if they were 2 completely different buildings!

When you walk into the gallery, you are greeted with an open, bright and spacious room! The white walls are adorned with amazing works, the little shop has some hand made pieces and towards the back, you will find a re-purposed safe being used as a display.

Downstairs, the ceilings were raised to give more light from the street level windows with a kitchen and the washrooms.

Upstairs was the most impressive of it all. As you walk up from the main level, you climb a gorgeous sculpted copper staircase. There is a little common area by the offices for coffee, tea and other refreshments. The main room features floor to ceiling windows and a little seating area. I can see some relaxing contemplation and conversation coming out of this place!

It may have taken a long time to get these renovations completed, but the building is designed beautifully and is now accessible to everyone who desires to come and enjoy some awe-inspiring and thought provoking displays. I would say... Mission accomplished!

Make sure to stop in and see it for yourself!
