MANCHESTER CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE THE CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 236 Main Street, Manchester, CT 06042 (860) 643-0792 Guidance Counselor Job Description Job summary: To serve as the school guidance counselor with specific attention on college and post- high school readiness and transitions Type of position: Contracted at 20%-time (equivalent to one full school day/week) Key Responsibilities:  Develop individualized plans for juniors and seniors as they make post-graduate decisions with their parents  Conduct college preparation seminars for parents and students during each year of high school  Communicate college, scholarship, and financial aid deadlines to students and parents  Administer the PSAT each year (may add administration of SAT)  Serve as the liaison between CCS and college (or other post-graduate institution)  Assist the head of school in maintaining current high school profile  Conduct career assessments during sophomore year  Provide opportunities for students to explore various careers based on assessment  Assist in identifying at-risk students  Participate in analyzing standardized assessments to ensure strong curricular program and student preparedness for graduation  Study and update high school student records as related to post-graduate goals  Participate in high school team meetings as often as possible  Assist with annual high school retreat  Maintain communication and connections with alumni by assisting with CCS alumni events  Assist with Christmas chapel for recent alumni Compensation: See CCS Salary Scale  Prorated professional time (20% of 2 days)  Prorated personal days (20% of 3 days)  Prorated sick days (20% of 10 days)  Qualifies for prorated tuition discount (20% of 75% tuition discount = 15% discount) Qualifications:  Committed Christian in support of Christian education  Experience or training as a guidance counselor or teacher  Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)  Willing to become ACSI certified as school counselor (if not already)  Integrity and professionalism  Excellent communication skills  Basic computer skills  Strong skills in teamwork
