The Edmonton Muse does Fashion Week Dahhhhling

WCFW (Western Canada Fashion Week) March 20-24, 2019

If you follow fashion at all, then you know that Spring Fashion Week is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. That’s when designers unveil their new collections for Fall 2019 - as they are always selling their lines to retail stores 6-12 months before the stores sell them to us. This spring’s showing at the ATB Art Barns was fresh and vibrant, and we have lots of awesome photos for you!

Western Canada Fashion Week kicked off a fabulous 5-night program featuring Fall 2019 collections from local, Canadian and international designers on March 20 2019. These world-class runway shows support both new and well known design talent, include design competitions and student showcases, and have become twice-a-year events featuring local entertainers and personalities.

The second night was especially fabulous for me because that is the Emerging Designer Competition and Showcases. I was thrilled to see that MC College students I have taught (both past & present) formed the majority of those involved in the show on Thursday March 21!

First the Emerging Designer Competition allows current unknown design talent to present one creation they have designed and sewn themselves, which is judged on-the-spot. Prizes are then awarded to three lucky designers, ranked first to third place, giving all a considerable leg up to boost their exposure. I was so excited to see several students of mine (past and present) enter the competition - and take two of the three prizes home to boot! First place went to Fatima Kahedi (a current MC student) and second place was awarded to Alberto Vega (who graduated from MC last year). Congrats to the winners - and kudos to ALL the new design talent that entered the competition this year, you did a fantastic job!
