October – Back to School, work, routines, comfort foods and emotional literacy….

What is emotional literacy?

I have read every book Brene Brown has written as it resonates with my journey. I feel the work she is doing about emotions, grief and connection is vital to humanity. It’s learning to recognize a feeling that sits in the body and speak it’s truth. Brene talks about 30 core

emotions! I thought about it, many including myself, tend to use these 3 (fear, anger or sadness) 3 out of 30! Somewhere along the way we let the conditioning sink in and feel that we are separate from others. I’m working on myself daily to find out what they are and how to sit

with that emotion, recognize it, label it, speak it, hold it and find out where it comes from and release it. That’s emotional intelligence, unfortunately we have been conditioned to be numb or use avoidance techniques. Then it becomes us, embodies us, takes over us and

that’s where the anxiety, the panic attacks and the depression seeps in. It takes us over like a darkness, it envelopes our very being of light. To see the emotion for what it is for, it’s a gift and a strength, not a burden or something “bad” That’s where we can get stuck in a

proverbial skip on the vinyl record, replaying and rehashing this emotion…not releasing it like a butterfly and seeing the beauty of another beautiful emotion. To feel is to be of soul (mind/body/spirit) We are emotional beings, we are all hard wired for connection, feeling

connected to something or someone is what were here for.
