HOW TO TACKLE FOOD WASTE

Twickenham Stadium shares how it re-evaluated the management of its food waste
We need to change the way we look at food waste . As an industry , we have to accept that what we do has negative implications for our local , national and international communities and , in order to reduce them on a macro scale , we need to think bigger . This means seeing waste as something that is created at the beginning of an event , not left at the end .
Twickenham took the decision to change the way it handles food waste , setting itself the objectives of :
• Reducing waste sent to landfill to zero ;
• Increasing the percentage of recycled waste from 97.2 % ( 2017 ) to 98.9 % ( 2021 );
• Using this initiative to share learning with our customers , clients and peers in the industry .
The answer to tackling food waste is to handle it at the beginning of the event process , not the end .
