City Mural Project Progressing!
City officials, bike advocates, and chamber members met on April 24 to review proposed designs for
three large bicycling murals to be painted onto the sides of buildings in the downtown. Biking artist Michael
Valenti, who has been commissioned to create the designs, was in Sparta to share his ideas and to review
proposed sites. The murals are part of an effort
to
to increase the visibility of Sparta’s claim to being
the
Bicycling Capital of America.
Sparta Spring Clean Up
Volunteers came together on Thursday and Friday,
April 24 and 25, to clean up sections of the Elroy-Sparta Trail,
the La Crosse River Trail, and the downtown. On Thursday, students
from the SAILS Charter School, employees of SERVPRO, and
community members picked up litter on the bike trail from the
Interstate 90 biking bridge to the Hwy 27 overpass. On Friday,
students from High Point Academy, downtown merchants, and
community volunteers cleaned up around Sparta’s downtown,
including Evans-Bosshard Park. Additionally, Bangor Middle School
FFA members picked up trash along the La Crosse River trail.
