Issue 81: March | April 2017 The NMC Construction Groups' Design and Construct (D&C) portfolio started out focusing largely on projects in the industrial sector and has since expanded significantly, now covering sectors in the industrial, commercial, retail and residential space. The scope of works comprises the demolition of an existing building and construction of a three storey concrete structure with steel portal structure making up an impressive trapeze hall. Pictured above; Pic 1: The trapeze hall under construction, trapeze artists clearly cannot wait for the grand opening. Through this form of procurement the return on the investment is guarenteed with respect to the capital cost. The structure is arranged like a theatre to highlight the drama and excitement of circus training with a triple volume trapeze hall taking centre stage. Multi functional training spaces provide the space and flexibility to host events, whilst classrooms and offices have direct visual connection with the training spaces. The groups' D&C model offers a streamline solution to complex projects. Through partnering, teamwork and effective collaboration with consultants, co-contractors and clients the group has succeeded in fine-tuning this offering to drive costs down while increasing value for clients.” Mike van Coller, Group Executive Director, Business Development. Current D&C projects under construction include Scuderia House, as well as Zip Zap circus. Construction on ZapZap Circus, a multi-storey training and recreational facility for client Sceniscope, has progressed past the half way mark and is steadily moving towards completion. In January 2017 construction commenced on the Scuderia House project, a new office facility and parking garage for client Ferrari SA. The scope of works comprises the construction of a new office facility and parking garage. Located in Roeland Street, in the heart of Cape Town’s CBD, the 20 000m² building will house five basement parking levels, one parking level above ground and seven commercial levels. The project is set for completion in February 2018. Pictured right; Pic 3: 18m deep excavations, from ground level. Pic 4: Architects rendering of Scuderia House on completion. Excavations 18m Deep
