Edmonton’s Queen Returns She may be a queen only in the hearts of those who knew her, but the Edmonton Riverboat is finally holding court once more. Reimagined and refurbished, the iconic ship has relaunched with a new owner—but the same desire to show off the city’s river valley. Cruise the North Saskatchewan in Riverboat Style BY TAM A RA ASC HEN BRE N N E R Nautical Notes It might be cliché to talk about the gorgeous transformations that happen in autumn, but with a river valley like ours, it’s almost impossible not to. At 22 times the size of New York City’s Central Park, the Edmonton river valley is quite impressive. The city offers many options for exploring the area, but few are as luxurious as a cruise. Imagine standing aboard an iconic riverboat while flanked by all. those. colours. Magical. Built in Sherwood Park, the Edmonton Queen riverboat first set sail on the North Saskatchewan River in 1996. For many years, the popular tourist attraction offered a new way for visitors and locals to enjoy the river valley, whether through public sails or private functions. The beloved Queen was permanently docked for several years, running only as a restaurant until it sold in an online auction. The now-dubbed Edmonton Riverboat was destined to rule over its riverbend, even if it came with an abdication and endless patience. Two more docked years later, this vessel was ready for its second inaugural sail. Now with fresh new permits, renovations, and upgrades, she’s ready for you to experience the history, nostalgia, and splendor. So step aboard, and savour the stunning ribbon of green—and red, and orange, and yellow. Take in a picturesque view as you tour between the newly constructed Walterdale Bridge and Dawson Bridge. The paddle-wheel boat pushes off four nights a week, with daytime cruises available on weekends. Leisure or dinner cruises are available, and all are perfect for a romantic date, a family-friendly event, or an afternoon with friends.
