For this season, the Town collaborated with local artists for submissions to represent the themes of Waxhaw Heritage, Activities and Well-being. “Art happens here!” The new tagline for the Wax- haw Arts Council sounds vaguely familiar and we love it because this summer, art is happening all over Waxhaw. The Kaleidoscope Fest returns on May 20th and 21st in downtown. The Kaleidoscope Fest, “where the arts kaleid” is a celebration of all things art from per- forming artists and culinary arts, to waxhaw craft smen KALEIDOSCOPE FEST and paint- “where the arts kaleid” ers. Taste a ka- leidoscope of brews at the fi rst ever “Art is Beer” craft brew fest being held in front of Dream- chasers Brewery. Sample food from a variety of vendors in the Farmers’ Market lot by the Wa- tertower. Stroll the streets to peruse or purchase fi ne arts and collectibles from local artists. Pass through “Art Alley” by Created in the Carolinas to view art exhibits and visit the quilt show. Next door, you can attend hands on classes from Thimble Bees Sewing School. Several one-hour hands on classes are being off ered during the fest. Studio Forma will be teaching the art of fl ower arranging, CreativebyKristin.com, a Mobile Art Studio, will be doing canvas-painting workshops. PG.8 /TownWaxhaw Town Talk PG.10 Kid Coders will be teaching the art of computer coding. Throughout the streets various art demon- strations and acoustic music performances will be taking place. There will also be a performing arts stage featuring area dance studios, martial arts studios, professional cheer groups, and theatre groups. New to the Kaleidoscope Fest this year, you can enjoy breakfast on the farm at Grace Roots Farm on Saturday May 20th. Heritage submissions are; the water tower (Rick John- son, Owahay Studios), the downtown historic streets- cape (Mary Susan Vaughn) and the train art (Laurel- wood Preschool). For activi- ties, submissions include; the Mary Steenwyk equestrian, (Rick Johnson), the cyclist (NCVelo), and an overhead drone photo (Chuck DeMund) from one of Waxhaw’s Kaleidoscope Festivals. Mary Sweeney’s young boy on the Fire Truck represents “well-being” and Waxhaw’s commitment to safety. The tomato, (Claudia T. Meyer) represents our agricultural roots and Wax- haw’s proximity to farm fresh foods. Art truly is everywhere in Waxhaw and The Kalei- doscope Fest kicks off a season fi lled with family friendly fun.
