Rounaghi , Kempf and Orgill Lead Laguna City Council Race Residents Vote Down Measure R , S and Q

Alex Rounaghi , current Laguna Beach mayor Sue Kempf and Mark Orgill are on their way to filling the three empty seats on Laguna Beach City Council . The three candidates solidly have the most votes after two batches of initial votes were counted on Nov . 8 .
“ Thank you , Laguna Beach . I ’ m honored by the overwhelming support from our outstanding community ,” Rounaghi said . “ The residents ’ participation is inspiring and I look forward to working with them , city staff , and the Council to improve and enhance the Laguna Beach we all love .”
OC Registrar of Voters predicts it could take up to a week for every ballot to be counted . However , Rounaghi , Kempf and Orgill have all but sealed the race with 24-year-old Rounaghi in the lead at 21 percent , and incumbent Kempf close behind with 20 percent of the votes . Orgill
By LB Indy Staff Eleven Laguna Beach High School ( LBHS ) student-athletes participated in National Signing Day Nov . 9 , officially committing to an NCAA Division I or Division II school that has offered them a scholarship to play for a sports team .
The following students signed National Letters of Intent ( NLI ) for the 2023-24 school year at a ceremony attended by their peers , family and school staff :
Jana Jocic , Swim ( Women ), UC San Diego
Colin Kidd , Baseball ( Men ), New Jersey Institute of Technology
Griffin Naess , Baseball ( Men ), Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Cadence Peery , Track ( Women ), Cal is third at 14 percent .
“ I thank the residents of Laguna Beach for their confidence and support in returning me for a second term ,” Kempf said . “ I am looking forward to working with the new Council as we continue to address the needs of the community .”
In the District 5 County Supervisor race , Katrina Foley is in the lead with 50 percent of the votes .
Laguna Residents First ’ s Measure Q , which would require a public vote on certain developments on Pacific Coast Highway and Laguna Canyon Road won ’ t pass , with 62 percent of residents voting against the measure .
“ The No On Q success says wonders about Laguna ’ s voters ,” said Joe Hanauer , a vocal advocate of the No On Q campaign .

“ This is a great day because it signifies that moment when students have committed to a particular college to continue their athletic and academic careers ,” said Laguna Beach Unified School District Athletics Administrator Denise Selbe . “ It is the culmination of incredibly hard work that began many years prior to even starting high school . Today is a great opportunity for students and their families to celebrate this ceremonial signing of their letter of intent .”
The National Letter of Intent is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution . Started in 1964 with seven conferences and eight independent institutions , the NLI program now includes 652 Division I and Division II participating institutions .

Festival of Arts Officials Report on 2022 Season

At the Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters annual membership meeting on Nov . 9 , members were updated on the past season ’ s achievements and among the first to have a glimpse at the 2023 Pageant of the Masters . The event , held at the Festival ’ s Forum Theater , featured reports on the past fiscal year ’ s activities , an overview of the 2022 season , recognition of long-time volunteers and staff , and a preview of the 90th Annual Pageant of the Masters “ Art Colony : In the Company of Artists .”
