Announcing LWPT Preaching Workshops and Webinars , Grants , Interviews and a bright future
It has already been a fulfilling 2024 at LWPT . Towards the end of 2023 , we introduced Preaching Workshops to our resource offering . These free-to-attend workshops and webinars are designed to offer practical and invaluable advice for preachers , helping to enhance skills in areas such as sermon preparation , creation and delivery . In January , we were delighted to have Rev Simon Moore , Vicar of St James the Great in Silsoe , lead our second workshop on ‘ Delivering Sermon Illustrations that Spotlight Truth ,’ who then returned to host a webinar in March that combined insights from his previous workshops , focusing on ‘ How to Structure a Sermon .’
In May , comedian and preacher Andy Kind led a workshop on ‘ Understanding the Psyche of Your Congregation .’ Then , in July , Dr Jenny Leith , a Lecturer in Christian Ethics at Westcott House , delivered an engaging session on ‘ How to Hold Political Conversations as a Christian .’ So far in 2024 , over 1,600 people have participated in these workshops and webinars , benefiting from the knowledge and experience shared by our speakers .
Supporting the Next Generation of Bible Teachers
Looking ahead , we have a webinar scheduled for September with Ian Stackhouse , a seasoned author and preacher with over 30 years ’ experience , who discusses sermon types . Our November workshop is hosted by Rev Dr Sam Wells , Vicar of St Martin in the Fields and a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4 ’ s Thought for the Day . We are thrilled to announce that we have received a record number of grant applications this year . Our grants , which are open to all Christian denominations , are awarded twice a year . We have three funding streams : The Cranmer Training Fund

for Anglican applicants , the John Wesley Training Fund for Methodist applicants , and the main LWPT fund for all other denominations . We are incredibly grateful to be able to support the future of preaching by easing the financial burden of training .
This year , we have conducted interviews with some remarkable individuals , including Bob Hartman , a best-selling author and talented storyteller ; Alister McGrath , the Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion at Oxford University ; Archbishop Stephen Cottrell , the Archbishop of York ; and Chris Gillies , author and Chair of Trustees for Stewardship . As we approach the end of 2024 , we are also eagerly anticipating the launch of our new website in early 2025 . The new site will simplify the grant application process , make it easier to navigate our resources and provide better support for preachers . Preach members will also benefit from individual on-demand access to a decade ’ s worth of articles , interviews , book reviews and more .
