Chieftain October 2016

BROTHER RICE VOLUME 56, ISSUE 2 Chieftain Why Trump? He’s Not Clinton Although in the last month my support has been tempered, I still would vote for Donald Trump for President. Clearly he has shown, in the past month and earlier in his campaign, that he is temperamentally and possibly morally unfit to be President. Some people may say that because of this he should be disqualified. If this were a regular election season, I would most likely agree, but not Daniel O’Connor this year. Although Guest Columnist Hillary is the “most qualified candidate ever,” she has shown throughout her career that she is the one who is unfit to be President. Hillary neglected to push for the U.S. Embassy to be evacuated in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012, after threats had been made. She then proceeded to be very unclear on what exactly caused the attack, telling a couple of the victims’ families that it was due to an internet video. Later, when questioned on details of the attack, she said, “What difference, at this point, does it make?” showing her lack of reverence for American lives. Next, the private e-mail server. Clinton was willing to put national security at risk for the sake of her own convenience, and then lied about the details of this. Secretary Clinton stated that none of the e-mails in question were classified at the time and that she only used one device. This man has plastered his name on casinos, skyscrapers, and hotels worldwide. The thought of such a man entering the complicated and tense world of politics hadn’t been in many people’s minds even two years ago. Jon Suan However, here we Guest Columnist are: “The Donald” has held control of the Republican Party’s nomination for months, throwing off several experienced, conservative and Libertarian politicians who had eyed the oval office for years. Yet with all of this well known, let’s get serious. Such a man is unfit for presidency, while his arch-rival, the “everso-lovely” Hillary Clinton, is fit. Despite her lies, which are undeniable, she still deserves to be President over Trump. She has more experience in the political field and has respect for other people. Trump is not the alternative America must seek. For starters, his lack of solid research into the ideas he puts forward paints him as an unintelligent buffoon. He has the temperament of an insecure teenager; he gets over-defensive when under fire for some of the pettiest things, evident in his desperate, 3 a.m. tweets.
