We are excited to announce the names of our judging panel for this year ’ s Grand Final of Sermon of the Year .
For our Head Judge we are delighted to welcome back Antony Billington , Senior Pastor at the Beacon Church , and Theology Advisor at the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity ( LICC ), who has been on our judging panel in previous years . Also returning is Dr Helen Morris , Acting Director of Studies and a Lecturer in Applied Theology at Moorlands College . We give a heartfelt welcome to Tobi Olujinmi - International Public Speaker , Media Producer and Founder of W TALK who joins our judging panel for the first time .
We asked each of our judges a couple of questions about their participation and more generally about what Sermon of the Year represents to them . Read their answers below .
Antony Billington
What might you personally be looking for in the winning sermon ?
In any preaching – my own as well as that of others – I ’ m looking mostly for a sermon that ’ s both faithful to Scripture and fitting to the congregation .
I ’ m less interested in the ‘ showcase ’ sermon and more concerned with how sermons – through careful engagement with the Bible – enable and equip Christians to live as followers of Jesus in the whole of their lives .
What do you see as the key merits of Sermon of the Year and the benefits to preachers ?
The Sermon of the Year provides an opportunity for new and seasoned preachers alike to reflect more intentionally than we might do otherwise on what makes for good preaching , and to renew our confidence in the shaping power of God ’ s word .
