Jean-Marc Hunt

Jean-Marc was born and raised in the suburb of Strasbourg , in the north east of France . A native of Reunion and Guadeloupe Islands , he is a selftaught visual artist and painter . In 2015 , he was awarded the rank of “ Chevalier of Arts and Letters ” by the Ministry of Culture and Communication of the French Republic .

From a very early age , Jean-Marc loved adventure and independence . At seventeen years old , he left school and home , travelled by train to various places , painted , worked casual jobs and sold his drawings on the street . He eventually settled down in his first studio which he shared with three other artists in Kehl , Germany . He continues along the artistic path today .
Jean-Marc describe his art as self-mockery , absurd and irreparable . He uses a vocabulary of neoexpressionist forms and combinations with his inspiration coming from a multitude of references borrowed from history , the media and art , integrating the notion of the collective memory . The alienation from the world stays a dominant influence in his work . His art is conceptualized by the feeling of freedom . This freedom opens ranges of possibilities for him and it is the singularity of his work .
Every every country and place he visited has embraced his art . He has exhibited extensively , recently returning from Lisbon where he was pleasantly surprised by the cultural diversity and dynamics of this city . He looks forward to exhibiting in many other cities including Canada .
