The lake is being treated by a portable, granular activated-carbon filtration system to remove perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) found at levels above the Environmental Protection Agency’s health advisory level in March. Testing revealed the nearby Stewart Air National Guard Base was the source of PFOS contamination of the lake reservoir and the city’s drinking water. Maloney and other government officials have since called for free blood tests for local residents. The reason?
