Duterte opens bank dedicated to the needs of overseas Filipinos

MANILA -- President Rodrigo Duterte launched on Thursday the Overseas Filipino Bank , a fruition of his campaign promise to establish the first-ever bank dedicated to the needs of overseas-based Filipinos .
In his speech during the launching of the Overseas Filipino Bank at the former Philippine Postal Savings Bank ( PostBank ) head office in Liwasang Bonifacio , Manila , the President said he was happy that he was able to fulfill one of his campaign promises .
In September last year , the President issued Executive
Order No . 44 ordering the Philippine Postal Corporation and the Bureau of the Treasury ( BTr ) to transfer their PostBank shares to LandBank at zero value .
The EO further stated that the former Postal Bank will be converted into the “ Overseas Filipino Bank ,” which will be a “ policy bank dedicated to provide financial products and services tailored to the requirement of overseas Filipinos ” and will focus on delivering “ quality and efficient foreign remittance services .” “ The Overseas Filipino Bank continue to page 3

MAKING A DIFFERENCE , TOUCHING LIVES

THE Surgical , Medical and Dental Mission held on January 9-12 , 2018 at Amigonian Fathers Seminary in the City of Gen . Trias became a success with the collaborative efforts of hundreds of medical volunteers comprised of surgeons , doctors , nurses , dentists , barangay health workers , religious practitioners and government employees touching the lives of almost three thousand ( 3,000 ) Caviteños during the four-day outreach event .
Stronger ties among various public , private , religious and non-civic organizations gave a much meaningful definition to the word mission . Accounting for thousands of patients served during the health mission were 1,465 individuals who had their medical consultation ; 203 who underwent surgical operation ( 53 major , 150 minor ); 273 who had dental extraction having a total of 655 teeth extracted ; and 650 who had their eye checked and at the same time took home free reading glasses . TRECE MARTIRES , Cavite -- The employees of the city government of Bacoor under the Bacoor Traffic Management Division ( BTMD ) recently attended a traffic management seminar facilitated by the Metro Manila Development Authority ( MMDA ).
The seminar held at the Liga ng Mga Barangay Hall in the Bacoor Government Center compound aimed to enhance the participants ’ knowledge and skills in order to better manage and respond to the ever challenging traffic problem and situations in and around the city .
Suggestions and recommendations by the participants were welcome during the discussion to better analyze the traffic problems and hopefully handle them in the best interest of all parties concerned .
The event was attended by Hon . Mayor Lani Revilla to support all projects and programs of the department , as she is always on top of all issues and concerns pertaining to rendering good public service to the constituents of the city . Makati continues free movies for elderly , PWD residents

Mayor Omil Poblete who celebrated her birthday recently , humbly shared her blessings to constituents during the medical and dental mission conducted on January 18 , 2018 at Patio Medina in the municipality of Silang . Among health and wellness services availed by the people were eye and dermatology check-up , medical consultation , dental extraction , manicure , pedicure , haircut , and massage therapy . Mayor Poblete thanked Cavite Governor Boying Remulla for the nonstop support on behalf of almost 300 Silangeños who benefited from the outreach event .
MAKATI CITY -- The local government continues to provide free movies , one of the many perks provided to the city ’ s senior citizens and persons with disability ( PWDs ).
In fact , in 2017 , the city paid a total of P38.5 million to five cinema partners for movie tickets issued for free to the both sectors who had availed themselves of the perk .
To date , the perk is enjoyed by close to 80,000 senior citizens and some 7,715 registered PWDs of Makati who can watch free movies at any of the cinema-partners in Glorietta and Greenbelt , Century Mall , Power Plant Mall , Cash and Carry , and Waltermart .
Makati Mayor Abby Binay said her administration has sustained the program because of its “ priceless ” benefits for the elderly as well as PWD Makatizens .
“ We cannot put a
price on the joys derived by the beneficiaries from this program . Many of our senior citizens have come to love their regular movie dates with their contemporaries , which also give them the chance to socialize and do some catching up ,” Mayor Binay said .
She also noted that having free access to movies is an “ enriching experience ” for the city ’ s PWD constituents . “ This program enriches their lives by giving them the freedom to learn more about places and other cultures around the world from every film they watch ,” the mayor said .
The program was started in 1997 for the benefit of the elderly , and was later expanded in 2006 to include the PWD sector .
In a report to the mayor , Accounting Department officerin-charge William Dayrit stated that for the whole year , the city paid P35,353,925.19 for the continue to page 2
