The best feeling on the fly

BY SCOTT HADDOW

Scott Currie works his cast to pin-point perfection. The white streamer fly he has tied on lightly taps the surface and slowly sinks away from sight 40-feet away from the boat and close to a rocky shoreline of a northern Ontario lake. He brings in his line with a steady motion. All of a sudden his body jolts. His fly rod bends in half. A moment later a chunky smallmouth bass breaks the surface and leaps for the sky in a violent eruption. Currie plays out and fights the feisty bass until it is scooped into a net. Currie holds the three-and-a-half pound fish with care and shakes his head in total satisfaction.
