Lights Out
for Sea Turtles
Through Oct. 31
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
reports that Kiawah’s 2019 nesting season totaled 575 nests
- a record for the island! While many turtles have already
hatched, the beach is still home to many nests. The nesting
season rules on beach lighting continue through Oct. 31.
No exterior lighting or flashlights are permitted on
the beach from 9 p.m. to dawn during this time. Visit
KiawahIsland.org for complete information on the town’s
ordinance.
KIAWAH CARES PADDLE FOR PEDALS
NEW DATE - SATURDAY, OCT. 5 | 1:30 P.M.
Rescheduled due to Hurricane
Dorian, there’s still time to sign
up for this great event. Hop on a
stand-up paddle board or a kayak
and paddle Kiawah’s Cinder Creek
for a good cause. You’ll paddle to
specific destinations, pick up a
playing card and build your poker
hand in this paddle poker run.
Your participation and entry fee of $85 will fund the
giveaway of a bicycle to a student at Angel Oak Elementary
School. Afterward, swing by the Cinder Creek pavilion for
a refreshing happy hour with live music, libations and hors
d’oeuvres. The winning hand will take home a bicycle and
kayak! Visit KiawahCares.org for all the information.
