Mr. Barnes has combined two of his favorite interests — riding bikes and helping the poor — by leading a new charity, Free Bikes 4 Kidz Detroit, for the past two years. After teaching full-time at Brother Rice for 12 years, Mr. Barnes reduced his teaching load in 2017 – he now teaches three classes a day– so that he could devote time to this new calling. When asked about how he balances both teaching and the organization, Mr. Barnes said, “It is a challenge.
